Most Common Problems & Solutions
- Engine will not start: Check fuel level and freshness; clean/replace spark plug; check oil level; ensure choke is ON when cold.
- Engine starts but dies: Dirty carburetor or fuel filter; clogged air filter; bad gas (use stabilizer).
- Blades won’t engage / won’t cut: Check PTO cable or belt; inspect blade engagement linkage; replace worn belt.
- Uneven cut / Scalping: Check tire pressure; level the deck; sharpen or replace blades.
- Excessive vibration: Damaged or unbalanced blade; loose engine bolts; worn spindle bearings.
- Snow blower throws poorly: Clean impeller and auger; check shear pins; adjust chute control.
Riding Mower & Tractor Specific
- Transmission / Hydrostatic issues: Check drive belt; ensure bypass lever is in operating position.
- Steering problems: Check steering gear and linkage for wear.
- Battery not charging: Test alternator output; check charging system fuses.
Snow Blower Specific
- Auger doesn’t turn: Replace broken shear pins; check auger drive belt.
- Electric start not working: Check extension cord and starter motor connections.
